How Long Does The Effects Of Valium Last ?

Valium is the brand name of generic drug diazepam which is used to treat anxiety, alcohol retraction, insomnia, extreme attacks, unsteady leg syndrome, depression and seizures. It is a benzodiazepine receptor agonist which affects brain systems to produce a drowsy effect. Valium is central nervous system depressant which leads to dizziness, drowsiness, light-headedness and unsteady balance.

The dosage of valium is 4 to 40 mg per day. Generally, this medication is safe, but it is dangerous when mixed with alcohol which leads to shallow breathing, unconsciousness, difficulty in memorizing and faulty coordination.  Moreover, when it is taken for long period of time, it can be addictive.

HOW LONG DOES VALIUM WORK

20 hours is the half-life of Valium.   The time taken by this medication to penetrate through blood is 1 to 1.5 hours. Absorption of this drug can be subject to slight delay should an individual have recently taken a meal high in fat before the consumption.  Time to reach peak plasma concentrations may be slowed by 1.25 hours and it may be decreased by 20% if taken with food.  Valium takes several days to come out of the body and the effects disappear within 4 to 6 hours that is why it should be taken all over the day.

It remains in the body for weeks and can be detected for at least 3 weeks in urine. In some people it may take 6 weeks to completely clear from the body.

It typically works within minutes of taking. It is not needed to be taken regularly to have its proposed effect. That’s why it is prescribed to be taken as needed.

After consumption, it starts to have some effect in about 15 to 20 minutes and 45 minutes to an hour for the full effect.

The effects of this drug will only last about 4 to 6 hours and don’t last long.

KINDS OF VALIUM TESTS:

There are many types of drug tests available for detecting the drug as well as other benzodiazepines. Common drug tests for valium and its metabolites are as mentioned.

Blood samples, urine samples, hair samples, and saliva samples. These tests may be helpful to know how long the drug left over the body.

VALIUM HIGH:

A Valium high effect will only last for about 4 hours and can be extended depending on the dosage.

EFFECTS OF VALIUM HIGH:

Valium’s effects for anxiety disorders may also have the side effect of causing a high. It slows down brain activity which results in a drowsy effect. When Valium gets high, some of these effects will be reported.

  1. Dizziness
  2. Madness
  3. Diversion.

After all, this drug is addictive hence abusing it to get high, may lead to risk. Its addiction leads to unlikable withdrawal symptoms, the uncontrollable appetite for the drug and irresistible use of the drug against negative consequences.

Discontinuation of valium should only be conducted under the supervision of the medical professional as direct discontinuation from high dosage may be fatal.
